A Sense of BalanceCounselling & Psychotherapy in Bournemouth

What is Transactional Analysis (TA)

The basic philosophical assumptions of Transactional Analysis (TA) are:

  • that you are essentially 'OK';
  • that you have the capacity to think for yourself;
  • that you can make decisions to live by that you can change.

    TA proposes that you have parts of yourself, Parent, Adult, Child, (called 'Ego states'), that determine how you behave in different circumstances and with different people. This can help you to understand what might be going on for you, and give us a common language to help you to achieve whatever change you want to make.

    TA is used all over the world in business, education, as well as in therapy.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) is a powerful technique to help the brain process trauma related, or anxiety provoking, experiences.

It is used to help process negative or painful associations and traumatic memories, including post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It can bring about profound change, lessen distress, help overcome fear, help conquer unwanted habits and make painful memories more manageable.

We may decide to use this as part of your therapy if appropriate.

EMDR is a psychological therapy used by counsellors and psychotherapists with specific training in this technique. It is approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
